United Kingdom Awards Overview

The Rhodes, Marshall, Churchill, and Gates Cambridge scholarships are among the most prestigious, sought-after awards for U.S. students. Recipients study at world-renowned institutions, become immersed in another culture, receive lifelong recognition, meet fellow scholars, and join networks of the scholarships’ distinguished alumni.

Rhodes Scholarship Program

The funds two years of study at the University of Oxford. All educational costs are paid on the Scholar's behalf by the Rhodes Trustees including: travel, tuition, laboratory and certain other fees.  The Rhodes Trustees cover the necessary costs of travel to and from Oxford, and upon application, may approve additional grants for research purposes or study-related travel. Applicants cannot apply directly to the Rhodes Trust; rather, they must receive university nomination in order to submit a Rhodes application.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be seniors or graduate students; U.S. Citizens or permanent residents*; and at least 18 years old, but under the age of 24. Additionally, nomination requires a minimum GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale.

*International students from select countries may apply through their home countries (see complete ).

Marshall Scholarships

The funds two years of graduate study leading to a degree in any field at a U.K. institution. Award covers university fees, tuition, books, a thesis grant, research and daily travel, plus fares to and from the US. Applicants cannot apply directly to the Marshall Commission; rather, they must receive university nomination in order to submit a Marshall application. 

ELIGIBILITY
Must be a U.S. citizen. Seniors, graduate or professional students, and recent alumni are eligible to apply within two years of earning their undergraduate degree.  A minimum 3.7 GPA is required. 

Winston Churchill Foundation Scholarships

The is for one year of graduate work leading to a degree in engineering, mathematics or science at Churchill College, Cambridge University. Award covers all Cambridge University fees & tuition, plus a living allowance and travel expenses up to $50,000. Applicants cannot apply directly to the Churchill Foundation; rather, they must receive university nomination in order to submit a Churchill application. Carnegie Mellon can endorse two candidates for the national competition.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be seniors or recent graduates, U.S. citizens, and between the ages of 19 and 26.

The Gates Cambridge Scholarships

The is for one to four years of graduate study and research at the University of Cambridge. A small number are also available for study towards a second undergraduate degree.  Award covers full cost of study at Cambridge plus airfare to and from the UK. Applicants must apply directly to the University of Cambridge and complete the supplemental portion of the application to the Cambridge Trusts to be considered for the award.

ELIGIBILITY
Seniors and recent graduates. May be citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom and may apply to any subject available at the University of Cambridge.  

The Ellison Scholars Program for Graduate Study at the University of Oxford

The Ellison Scholars Program supports fully funded DPhil (PhD) study at the University of Oxford’s Ellison Institute of Technology. Scholars will study and work on projects related to EIT’s . Seniors and alumni with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree are eligible to apply. Candidates must also meet the eligibility requirements and be admitted to their chosen program of study at Oxford. 

ELIGIBILITY
Recent collage alumni with either a bachelor's or master's degree.  No maximun age limit.  Individuals with multiple years of work experience are also eligible.
